Grandma’s Apple Pie

If you’re looking for an apple pie recipe, this is by far the best one I’ve tried, and I’m about to share it with you! This recipe is my grandma’s famous recipe that she used to make for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. This recipe is a very special one and now that my grandma isn’t able to make them anymore, I’ve taken over making the apple pies for our family get togethers.

I hope you can enjoy this recipe with your family as much as I have with mine. This post contains some affiliate links, which means if you make a purchase using one of those links, I may make a small commission at no extra cost to you! 🙂

I normally use McIntosh apples for this but Rome and Stayman are also good! Here is what you’ll need:

PIE FILLING:

6 cups (about 6 medium) apples- I like to slice mine very thin.

3/4 cups of sugar

1 heaping Tablespoon of flour

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 Tablespoon of lemon juice

CRUST:

2 1/4 cups of flour

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/2 teaspoon of sugar

3/4 cup of crisco + 2 tablespoons (refrigerated)

1/3 cup of very cold water

Instructions:

  1. Peel and slice the apples
  2. Mix together the apples, sugar, tablespoon of flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Set aside.
  3. Mix the flour, sugar, and salt together.
  4. Add crisco and blend with a pastry blender until the mixture is the size of little peas. Pour in the water and mix with the pastry blender until too thick to blend, then finish mixing the dough with your hands. Form the dough into a ball and cut in half.
  5. Roll out one half of the dough and put into a pie plate. Put the apple mixture in the pie plate and top with 2 Tablespoons of butter. I cut the butter up into smaller pieces and spread them out all over the apples. Then roll out the other crust and put on top.
  6. Cut off the excess crust, pinch the edges or press with a fork and cut a few slits in the crust. I like to top it with sugar crystals, regular sugar will work if you don’t have any. Put the pie in the microwave on top of a small dish for 8 minutes. Next, bake in the oven at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Serve by itself or with ice cream and enjoy!!
